About Us

The SPCO, A New Orchestra based at St Peter's Church, Kinver.

The St Peter's Concert Orchestra (SPCO) was an idea that came to us after putting together a small ensemble to play at our confirmation service in March 2016. From there the group has grown and is continuing to form the SPCO.

The SPCO is made up of people from all walks of life; music students, music teachers, amateur musicians, semi-professional musicians, and professional musicians. We have a mixture of Christians and Non-Christians and we all work together to create wonderful music. We have chosen to open our orchestra to both Christian and Non-Christian musicians because we believe that everyone is loved by God whether you believe or not. It can be amazing what can be achieved from the miracle that is music.

Our plan is to create an orchestra that will perform at a very high standard for services, praise events and of course concerts. Currently we are working on music for the nine lessons and carols service on Sunday 18th December and for our first concert on Saturday 4th March.

The concert is animal themed, featuring: 1st Movement of the Swan Lake Suite, Flight of the Bumblebee (Violin Solo with Orchestra), Carnival of the Animals, Fantasia on Greensleeves and Peter and The Wolf.

Our hope is that the orchestra will grow and we can perform at the highest of standards in order to take our orchestra to perform at other venues across the country. There will be opportunities for chamber ensembles to form out of the orchestra to give recitals and play at smaller functions.

Our  Leader (1st Violins) is Jane Wright, Sub-Principal of the CBSO, which is a great honour for us, Jane's husband, Martin Wright, is our Principal Horn and he is Principal 5th Horn in the CBSO. Some of the orchestra's members are students or former students of the Birmingham Conservatoire, Royal Northern College of Music and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland,  so there is great opportunity for networking and playing alongside some amazing musicians.

Rehearsals are on the second Sunday of every month. The next is Sunday 13th November 3pm - 5pm in St Peter's Church, Kinver.
